The Southern Anthropological Society Endowment Fund, which was established in the early 1990s, is dedicated to:
- Expanding our knowledge of Anthropology in and about the South
- Promoting our discipline in the South, particularly at smaller institutions which may not offer courses in Anthropology
- Promoting a speaker’s bureau, which would make participating anthropologists available to offer lectures to smaller institutions, including historically minority schools
- Rewarding outstanding scholarship on the anthropology of the South
